Aha! Well maybe therein lies my problem - I'm using 1.5 with source/target
parameters set to 1.4 in the build file. Maybe there's something strange
going on under the hood.

PS. It is only the Doc target that can't build, so it's not really a
critical issue.

Fwiw, and I don't have any scientific proof for what I am trying to say, but
if you happen to use JDK 1.4.2, try to switch to latest release (which
should be 1.4.2_07, iirc). I used to have similar (unexplainable) problems,
and after upgrading these problems simply disappeared.
