Are you using a mapping file, or are you working against classes as generated from an XML schema ?
I'm using a mapping file. I'm trying to avoid adding more classes (generated or manually coded) to the codebase.
PS What's the exact exception(s) you are getting ?
I'll have to look up the exact exception sometime next week when I'm in office again, but it could be overcome by adding a setter for the property in question - which is not an option for me, I'm afraid.
