Oh I see - is that the only known way to setup LDAP authentication for Drill

You'll want to configure the Linux boxes on which Drill is running to use LDAP 
for user authentication. That way, when Drill checks the credentials against 
PAM, the local operating system is translating that into the LDAP calls.
