No question about this.

Whether this is done by using OSGI or some lighter weight classloader stuff might still be debated. That Gradle needs such separation, however, it not.

I know they have indicated such changes would happen before 1.0.

This is true. Tom was working on that already but he is very busy at the moment with non Gradle stuff. We are not sure yet when we will tackle this. But, as said above, there is no question that this is a very important feature.
