In my experience, auto-correlation routines, even the most 'expensive' ones,
tend to only work in very simple cases, and even then I wouldn't trust them.
One of the things that I like about JMeter is its focus on core
functionality, without any of the bells and whistles that are so loved by
marketing departments.

That said, there are some correlation tasks that can become a chore and in
these cases I would suggest two things:

1. Making good use of the fact JMeter's proxy will automatically create
variables for any values that you already have defined in the test plan
(root).

2. Using SED on the jmx file.
