Hello,
Not fully true. Since JMeter 2.9, the "document" files (including MS
Excel) are supported (using Apache Tika inside JMeter).
http://jmeter.apache.org/changes.html :
"JMeter can now handle different types of documents (PDF, MsOffice
files, Apache OpenOffice's files...) within different elements.
* Regular Expression Extractor, extract text from documents
* Assertion Response, check text in documents
* View Results Tree, view as a text the documents"

Jmeter does not support XLS out of the box , but it can be done using
Beanshell/BSF/Java and libraries like POI/JExcelAPI.
most of these dont support formulae however - if all you are worried about
is time - use the JMeter functions -
