I read this thread and the Bugzilla, and thought:
Why did we remove the old instructions?
What old instructions?
  They are for "Lenya 1.2.?".
They worked well for Lenya 1.2.2: copy a publication and change the
name.

The issues being solved are for Lenya 1.2.3, which is a development
release.
Nope. It's the same kind of release as 1.2.2 was (stable).

Anyone using the Windows installer expects a stable release,
and should get 1.2.2.
Anyone should get the latest stable release, which, as of today, happens to be 1.2.3
If they wanted unstable code, they would be
using SVN, WHICH SHOULD NOT BE ENCOURAGED FOR FIRST TIME USERS. Lenya
1.2.3 should not have a Windows Installer, and this issue should not
exist.
It was suggested, in this case, to get the source version. The stable source version from 1.2.3 release. Not SVN.

The developers seem to want everybody to use the last night's code,
but we need to make starting with Lenya as easy as possible. That
means the Windows Installer should only exist for the last STABLE
release, and the download should be linked directly from Lenya's
homepage from a big graphic saying "WINDOWS DOWNLOAD HERE". One
click; not 3 clicks choosing a mirror and wondering what "tar", "gz",
"asc", and "md5" mean while trying to decide which version is for me.
Well.... while some explanation needs to be added, lenya's target audience should know what a gz archive and a MD5 sum is, Anyhow, add a patch to the respective bugzilla entry.
