Hi all,
obviously I released a hot discussion. So my two wasted days on trying to
build with the installer have brought out something productive.

when i created the installer, i wanted to give users an easy ability to
test drive lenya. i just added build.properties to the windows installer,
hopefully that will make it more useful.
Does that mean I can now try it again with the (updated) installer bins?
I'm going to install lenya on my webserver, where tomcat and cocoon is
already running (I'm not the server-man, but he is in holiday, so I'll try
my best...). Should I know build lenya from source to easily (?) implement
lenya later in my webserver? Due to the fact, that our cocoon and tomcat
does not fit the installation requirements, we would have to update them
before.
Or should I play (and build?) with the servlet/jetty-variant to get more
comfortable with lenya and later decide what to do?
Are there experiences in having tomcat and lenya as jetty-servlet
coexisting?

Lenya's target audience should know what a gz archive and a MD5 sum is
Is it really necessary to know anything or shouldn't it be the ability to
get necessary knowlegde?
I think everybody who's really willing to learn something should be given a
chance... (Me for example ;-) ) When I don't know what a gz archive is...
google makes me happy. But when you are looking for
"easy-to-understand-Tutorials-for-dumbs" for Lenya...
One big problem in lenya for newbies (especially for me) is that is bundled
with a lot of other "unusually" stuff - I mean you have to know a little
java, cocoon, xslt, xsp, ant....
So an easy to use "One-Click-Installer" is sure the right way to get more
people to play and make experiences with lenya. This will help lenya to get
publicity.
But good and also easy to use (and understand) documentation is necessary to
make it possible for beginners to go deeper in lenya configuration without
learning java, ant...
And thats a weak point at lenya (and cocoon, when I began with it). The most
of you are brilliant heads, and I mean it, but thats the problem. In the
tuts there are many steps (deploying...) not clear for a beginner with no
knowledge of the used technologies, but you don't recognize it, because you
know the necessary facts.
I'm not complaining, because lenya is great (as far as I understand it) and
you are all doing a hard job to make it better and easier to use. Go on!
Thanx for all postings
Franz
