Hi Lenya users,
if there is interest in developing 3rd-party modules for Lenya as open
source outside the ASF repository, we could for instance create a
project at Origo (http://www.origo.ethz.ch/). I'd start with moving
the feed and person modules from the sandbox to the external repository.
why do you want to move the person and feed module outside of the ASF?
IMO the question should be asked the other way round - why should we
keep a particular module in our codebase?
The person module is only used for a tutorial, I think this doesn't
justify keeping it in the repository. Maybe we could add it as a ZIP
file to the documentation.
The feed module is still very rudimentary. It works only with specific
RSS feeds, there's no error handling etc. AFAIK it didn't gain any
interest by others - otherwise a lot of bugs would probably have been
reported :)
As long as I'm the only person who maintains the module, I think it is
inappropriate to keep it in the ASF repository.
WDOT?
Btw, re hosting external modules you might also want to consider
sourceforge or http://www.swissforge.net/
Thanks for the pointers! Swissforge seems to accept only /ch/open
projects, and they seem to have a focus on Swiss projects.
Another option might be codehaus.org, though I don't know if they would
accept to host a kind-of sub-project of an ASF project.
I attended a presentation by one of the Origo founders, they seem to be
very open to all kinds of projects. The technology of the platform
itself is also very interesting. I have to admit that the future of the
platform isn't decided upon, though; they're still looking for an
organization volunteering to provide the infrastructure on a long-term
basis.
