Interestingly enough, Aegir does work.
I believe midgard and php are compiled against the same MySQL library.
php-mysql was installed
from RPM, and midgard was compiled against mysql-devel, installed from
RPM. But since Aegir is
working, am I right in assuming that it would not be an issue with the
MySQL libraries ?

Hi!
Thanks so much for all of your help. I tried installing from the beta
repository but am getting the same results. I thought that it may be
because I no longer have a clean install after all of my attempts at
getting this working,
Is spider-admin or aegir works at all?

Looks to me like it's trying to make a database connection and resolve
the name of the database server. I have verified all of
my database connection info and am able to manually connect to the
databases from this server.
I suspect mysql library mismatch. Do you have only one mysql library?
Both midgard and php module has been built against this one?
