Eric,
You can try to enable "debug output" to see if it would show you more
information.
In the future version we will be using the same launcher as Maven CLI,
so the error logging will be exactly the same.

Simple explanation: You have a compilation error.
The embedded Maven in M2Eclipse does not currently show these. Try
executing on the command line.
