You can already run "mvn install" and "mvn test" from "Run As..."
popup menu on the project. Though workspace dependency resolution should
make it unnecessary to install things to the local Maven repository when
you are working on something in the IDE.
For the customized launch shortcuts please vote on the following jira
issue.
MNGECLIPSE-351: allow to configure custom maven launch shortcuts
http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MNGECLIPSE-351
BTW, is anyone interested in working in the implementation for that
feature?
regards,
Eugene

Oh, and anything else that helps manage the local repository, such as
a manual installation gui. I currently have one project that is a
reusable utility library for a main project. My main project
references the utilty jar in its POM. It would be nice if there was a
facility for uploading my projects to the local repository (a call to
"mvn install").

First of all, thanks for asking!
How about the ability to execute some other common mvn commands,
like mvn test and mvn site? (or perhaps other plugins that are
specified in the pom)
