As far as I understood, Robin wants to employ WYSIWYG page building
tools to create HTML code, but within this code he wants to embed
midgard elements.

Am I right?

If so, then what's wrong with an aproach that does not bypass midgards's
normal mode of operation, i.e using said tools to first create the
static HTML. Then, you create a new style with that code as its <[ROOT]>
element. You could do that with a dedicated midgard page where your
users upload the static HTML or with a standard admin interface and
copy/paste, or even by directly updating the database (you'd need to
create a new style record and a new element record).

Then you can modify this style, i.e. include elements which you later
specify in your page code.

Or something along these lines....
