Well, meanwhile I uninstalled Midgard1.4.0 completely (including the
database midgard in mysql) and compiled Midgard1.4.1 from source (I
never compiled before:-) ). It was really a lot of work and learning for
me, but I finally managed it. The only problem is that I couldn't
configure --with-xml because I couldn't find the "include file". But at
the moment Midgard seems to work (I just create my first example site).
The problem didn't occur after the installation of Midgard1.4.1
But thanks for your description, it will probably help me in further
problems.
