bash is used in dbinstall.in
but it looks for it not in /bin/bash whereas freeBSD puts it in
/usr/local/bin/bash

do I have to rename configure to configure.pl and dbinstall to dbinstall.pl
to do what you suggest

Try:

$ ./configure.pl <whatever options you want>
$ ./dbinstall.sh
