HOORAY. THAT did the trick:

[Wed May 9 23:27:17 2001] [debug] mod_midgard.c(1296): [client
192.168.0.1] Midgard: using style #3 (19 elements)
[Wed May 9 23:27:17 2001] [debug] select_db.h(9): [client 192.168.0.1]
Midgard: select_database kept current database midgard
[Wed May 9 23:27:20 2001] [debug] mod_midgard.c(228): Midgard: closing
1 database connections

No more segfaults now. For documentation:
Apache/1.3.19 (Unix) (SuSE/Linux 7.1) mod_perl/1.24 Midgard/1.4.1
PHP/4.0.4pl1 configured

I now have broken <img > links inside midgard ("The requested URL
/midgard/images/topleft2.gif was not found on this server.") but I
think that is a minor problem - at least after all we've done and
checked before ;-) .... ?

Thanks to Emile, David, Torben, PHR, Alex.

Greets, Thomas
