Midgard 1.4 installation with deb packages is quite smooth and easy.
AFAIK I installed with dpkg , the directory which contains midgard-deb
doesn't
contain Packages.gz file ( but I'm not sure).
When You download just do in the directory which contains midgard-deb:
dpkg -i ./midgard_deb_packages
