Look here:
rsync://ftp.altlinux.ru::ALTLinux/Sisyphus/SRPMS/php-4.0.6-alt0.2RC1.src.rpm
It is PHP 4.0.6 Release Candidate 1,it works with Midgard like a breeze.
You can try to compile it with Mandrake,   it should work.

I've tested different orderings,all worked fine.  It is generally  a
problem  of existing conflicts between  common  libraries  when one is
linked statically to one Apache module, and  dynamically to
another, like with MySQL bindings in PHP and libmidgard/mod_midgard.
