What next? I have a cobalt server that I was hoping to use on with this but
really wanted to hack at it on the development machine before trying it
'live'.....

The above are correct, and by using ldconfig you've shown that the
dynalinker can find them too.
Rambo? Was this one of the peculiarities you encountered?
