The use of .mgd files is not the default way to use midgard. It is meant
for use with filetemplates, which has some restrictions when compared to
the 'normal' database-based install.
You should install the datapackage, and point your browser to
http://hostname:port/asgard/ to start the default administration interface
that comes with Midgard. You may have to check wether the host table in
your underlying mysql database is set to the correct host.
If this does not solve your problems, turn up logging by specifying
'LogLevel debug' in httpd.conf and stopping and starting apache. Then show
us the output in the error_log (Not all of it, just the relevant parts)
