It's not currently possible. It's a good idea, but we're struggling a bit with how to implement it cleanly. The issue of pervasive softlinks has been discussed on and off but we never got to a good resolution. We _are_ definately interested in softlinks, but I'd hate to add a situation-specific hack that comes to haunt us later.
