I don't know anything about them, I never touched them. David originally
wrote the code, perhaps he can say something about them.

That would probably be too hard. You may want to check on this url:

http://www.midgard-project.org/manualxml/

It holds the current manual rendered in php.net style, so it has the
sidebar for quick navigation through the manual, and the notes system too.

It will eventually replace the current manual.

The notes system will help, as annotations did in the past. It should
however not be mistaken as a replacement for documentation.
