Yes. This sounds like Midgard is working properly.

| I import midcom.xml using repligard. I can now see the midcom snippets.

Ok.

| Then I import midcom-template.xml. The imported data goes into the
| database and I can see it using the MySQL client, but it doesn't show up
| in Aegir. So I manually put a host record into the database, and enter
| the id of the midcom_template page as my root. That makes it show up in
| Aegir, and I can browse to the page. But when it says the AIS topic
| isn't set up and offers a link to click, I click the link and end up on
| a blank page.

I suggest starting over and following the correct procedure here:

* Create a sitegroup (company) for your organization
* Create a website for the organization (use From template: MidCOM site
~ template)
* Then go to that website, and follow the "initialization" link. This
~ will lead you to /midcom-admin/init/ on that site
* Log in using the account of the sitegroup administrator
~ (just username & password, no sitegroup info here since we're already
~ in a sitegroup)
* Initialize the site
...

Please report back if this fails at some point. Since the MidCOM
site template will be the default way to build Midgard sites in
future we should make the setup procedure as easy as possible.
