You should download source debian packages from: http://www.midgard-project.org/debian/dists/unstable/source/ next dpkg-source -x package.tar.gz dpkg-buildpackage -b (in ungzipped package directory) > Everything installed fine with the midgard programs going into > /usr/local/etc/, /usr/local/bin etc . Not sure if any of this might have > broken anything. If you need to have all packages installed with /usr/local prefix, you need to edit rule file for libmidgard.
