Hello Robert,

| As promised, i'm posting a series of messages that detail my experience

This is great, keep it up!

| So i try one last thing, to see if I can change the website definition
| for the site I setup for Midgard yesterday - www.privaterra.ca - to the
| domain name that I actually want, - www.privaterra.org -
|
| Seeing I'm still a Midgard novice I fear that doing something without
| having read the manual might lead me into - unexpected - results. I must
| admit, I never really read manuals and tend to figure out how things
| work really easily.
|
| But how would I change the domain name in midgard? Thinking about it, I
| remember that I was asked for a domain name when I created the domain in
| question. Perhaps if I log in as Admin, and look around I might be able
| to find the existing definition and just change it. Perhaps it's that
easy?
|
| So I do the following:
|
| - log into Aegir as admin
| - Select - Websites
| - In the Websites section, click on the www.privaterra.org Site
| - Details
| - Change the Name from :
|
| www.privaterra.ca
|
| TO
| www.privaterra.org
|
| - Click Submit
|
| Well that seems to work, as the name of the website has now changed to -
| www.privaterra.org -
|
| Accessing the domain with my browser doesn't have me hit the index.html
| i created above. I don't get re-directed - but instead see the Midgard
| site i build last night...
|
| So all looks fine - however, let's take a closer look...

Everything is good, take a deep breath, you did it. :)

| Going back to the Websites section, I click on Roots/Website, the entry
| for www.privaterra.ca is still there, and is now proceeded by two *

Yes, that's correct as that is the PAGE record, not the HOST record.

| - Entering into Aegir as the site admin (not master Midgard admin),
| reveals that - www.privaterra.ca is still in the website listing, and as
| above is proceeded with two *.
|
| So it looks like I've tried to update the name of my Midgard created
| host from www.privaterra.ca to .org and obtained mixed results.

The root page name (or title) does not matter, and it's not changed
during the hostname change you did previously. So, if it bothers you,
just change the PAGE record name and title to match the correct
domain name. However, from the Midgard point-of-view, it really
doesn't matter as the host record uses the root page.

| Obviously things aren't working as they should - I guess I was a bit
| impatient and should have consulted the Midgard guru's as I did
| yesterday morning.

Yes things should be right, you did see the site you built, right?

| I will send them a short note by email asking them to read this blog,
| and hope that sometime in the next few days they can help me fix the
| **'s in the Website section and correctly change the domain name.

Bergie: could you hook Robert's blog to the Planet Midgard?
I think this stuff could be really useful to other people
wrestling with the Midgard "oddities".

Cheers!
