Greetings!
I'm finally going to start coding the Midgard Site Wizard tomorrow following mRFC 0007: http://www.midgard-project.org/community/development/mrfc/0007.html
Please read that spec and comment ASAP :-)
Some discussion from #midgard: [19:55] TheWarden: rguerra: yes I agree and I have mentioned something similar to bergie that we need to centralize things. For instance once a install is completed the rest should be done via the web browser for everything in regards to admin, editing, editos etc. so such links would go there. [19:56] TheWarden: bergie: needs to be centeral part though.. no longer requiring a user to go to /aegir/ and others just one /midgard/ or something like that would take you to everything. ... [19:57] Bergie: TheWarden: the basic idea with the site wizard is that it runs within the "Welcome Page" [19:57] TheWarden: bergie: perfect! I'm happy to hear that! [19:57] Bergie: so you can get your site running directly there, and then go to Aegir only if you need to tune stuff... manage users, make a custom layout or something [19:58] Bergie: but for most stuff, you have only two URLs... the Midgard Welcome Page and your own site [19:59] TheWarden: bergie: right and there should be a link that would take you into the Aegir and other stuff. One basica interface... of course once you get nto say Aegir you would have to have a Home link or something like that to take you back to this centeral area since Aegir and others are really web apps and require full browser window. [19:59] TheWarden: bergie: perfect [19:59] rguerra: i'm happy that is being built :) ~ [19:59] TheWarden: wishes he had a test server running Midgard so he could play with this wizard ... [20:00] Bergie: rguerra: today I'm officially making the app-level spec, although actually I'm just chatting here [20:00] Bergie: tomorrow I'll code :-) [20:00] TheWarden: <G> [20:00] rguerra: a request - would be to ask the user for an organizational logo [20:01] rguerra: the wizard could fetch it, and add it to the style/site being generated. [20:01] Bergie: rguerra: yeah, I've been planning that [20:01] TheWarden: cool idea and possible I say [20:02] Bergie: I also have proposals from a graphic designer for 3 layout templates for the wizard... if the ISP who is paying for the wizard accepts that we should have a good start [20:02] rguerra: another item - and not sure if it's related to the wizard.. [20:02] Bergie: The idea with the templates is that they will be configurable: logo and colors, for example can be changed [20:03] rguerra: is the ability to save a site, so that one doesn't have to build from scratch, but save say a pre-existing blank site as a reference ... [20:03] TheWarden: yeah a style template... [20:03] Bergie: rguerra: I think that is also in the spec [20:03] rguerra: when i mean blank, i mean no content [20:03] TheWarden: wow awesome [20:03] Bergie: rguerra: "4. Set up site structure" [20:04] Bergie: guys, read the spec please :-) [20:04] rguerra: ok. printed the spec. have these comments.. [20:05] rguerra: section 2 - authentication - will secure (https) be used (or not) [20:05] rguerra: section 4 - an idea, and it's just that... is as follows [20:06] rguerra: in presenting the user a list of "site types" - would that be static, or could it be fetched from a dynamic list being hosted somewhere. [20:07] Bergie: section 2: that depends how the server is configured... by default it won't be HTTPS because there is no certificate [20:07] rguerra: i mention that, as it would be perhaps nice to have people be able to share site types they create [20:07] Bergie: rguerra: yeah, sharing site types would be a good idea. However, I think they should be installable files, not downloaded from web dynamically [20:08] rguerra: https - perhaps ask if https is setup. then proceed if the person wants to use sedcure auth [20:09] rguerra: in terms of # 4 ,as well - perhaps ask what functions the user would like to have (ie. blog, rss feeds, etc), and depending on what selected add them to the structure being created. [20:09] Bergie: rguerra: I think the login screen could have some "notice: this site is using an insecure connection. Please read the HOWTO for securing it" with link to Midgard site [20:09] rguerra: bergie - as long as we have a HowTo, then fine :) [20:10] Bergie: rguerra: we need to make one :-) [20:10] TheWarden: some docs would have to be specific to software used on server... [20:11] TheWarden: bergie: awesome statement, I would love to see that in Midgard for security measures.
/Bergie
