@Jarek: Serega basically listed a lot of the points. We're also maintaining some Impala compatible tables (replacing DECIMAL with FLOAT as the former is not yet supported in Impala) that we build with Impala. @Mohammad: Thanks. I'm not entirely sure if Impala can really be generalized because its JDBC driver is rather limited (no commit etc.) but I'll open an issue for the functionality.
