Hello Tom,

I would ask the user to use recording test: "Start recording test" button
on "Choose device" dealog
then you can modify config.xml and "play" with "microphoneRateBest",
"echoPath" and "echoSuppression" properties

this will require couple of round-trips:
1) you change the value
2) user will reload the page
3) test the sound
then goto 1 if it doesn't help

additionally I would ask user to try to use external microphone (for ex.
handsfree microphone from his/her cell-phone)
something like this
