joop... need to be done for each API... Probably a few "generic" messaging functions for the REST API and a few people from the list could provide some scripts/code to handle the communication to a given service, just like Robert suggested

I would love to see such universal API to work with multiple messaging providers ...
AFAIK every service must be handled individually :(

I vaguely recall some website in South Africa that did indeed
offer free SMS's.. I can not find the link. sorry.

Best way forward might be some API to allow users to do it
themselves via a commercial service like twilio, etc. It should
be easy, famous last words, right?

And yes! Telegrams! Damn, I miss those machines banging out the
ticker tape! Backwards compatibility is always good! ;)

Nobody answered right now, that he/she is using this feature
heavily... Maybe nowadays support for messaging over telegram
or such things might be more useful...

That makes a lot of sense.

                Hello All,

I would like to drop SMS sending support in 4.0.0,
            reasons:

                1) library for SMS sending is not supported anymore
            (smslib.org <http://smslib.org>
<http://smslib.org> site is down, both github
            repositories are not
                maintained)

                2) I believe this library doesn't work as expected

                3) I'm unable to test SMS sending

                What do you think?
