Hi,
why not using memcached ?

You just have to install a memcached server and php-pecl-memcache. Then, in 
your php.ini file, just replace these fields :
session.save_handler = memcache
session.save_path = "tcp://your_memcached_server.com:11211"

I'm using this solution, it works very well with owncloud.
