Rather that making another copy of the files on my system I'm symlinking
from my $HOME/Documents.

lrwxrwxrwx 1 wwwrun www 22 Apr 21 14:24 MyDocuments -> ~anton/Documents/

in the appropriate apache's owncloud .../anton/files/

Of course when I visit there from my tablet I see

Documents > Letters > You don't have permission to upload or create
files here

My relevant config is

etc/apache2/conf.d # more owncloud.conf
Alias /owncloud "/srv/www/htdocs/owncloud/"
<Directory "/srv/www/htdocs/owncloud">
    Options Indexes
    Options +FollowSymLinks +MultiViews
    AllowOverride All
    Order allow,deny
    allow from all
</Directory>

We,, symlinks are being followed but there's no override.

I've tried putting apache in the 'users' group since those Documents are
'shared', that is gid=users:rw but that doesn't seem to make any difference

drwxrwxr-x 2 anton users 304 Mar 29  2014 /home/anton/Documents/Letters/

and

# id wwwrun
uid=30(wwwrun) gid=8(www) groups=100(users),8(www)

So that's why they are readable.
How to make them writeable?

What to do about this?

In the long run I'd like to run ownCloud from a separate server.
Once again I don't want to have to make copies from my desktop to the
server.  Any suggestions?
