The official upgrade path is:
->7.0.12->8.0.10->8.1.5->8.2.2

And you need either switch to the owncloud-repos (respect all the
intermediate version):
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/isv:/ownCloud:/community:/7.0/xUbuntu_14.04/
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/isv:/ownCloud:/community:/8.0/xUbuntu_14.04/
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/isv:/ownCloud:/community:/8.1/xUbuntu_14.04/
and for 8.2 you'll need:
https://download.owncloud.org/download/repositories/stable/owncloud/

Or you manage everything manually.

If your main concern is contacts and calendar you can try to
export&import procedure. You can reupload files (but all sharing
settings will be lost). You can properly remove the old repo and
directly start the new one.
