That's a surprise. Let me play with some code and I will post again when I make some progress.
I also want to run a few tests with Excel itself so that I can compare the files POI creates with one generated with the application itself just in case POI is missing setting some flag or other. All I did yesterday was to select a row on the workbook and set every cell on that row to unlocked. Next, I populated a few of the cells on the row, locked one or two and was able to delete it if I selected the Delete rows option before protecting the workbook; that led me to post the second time to correct the erroneous statement I made previously. I wondered at the time if this is what needs to be done in order to create a template file that POI can then manipulate. Will also test this hypothesis if I get the time. Tomorrow, I am off leading another natural break holiday and so will be away for a few days; I will be certain to notify you of any progress I make before then. Even if I do not solve the problem by then, with luck someone else can pick up on and continue the work.
