Tables in XSLF were tested against MS Office 2007 and 2010. I've re-checked this functionality now and it is working OK for me.
You are welcome to research why LibreOffice is not happy opening tables generated by XSLF. - Open the file in MS Office and then save. Can LibreOffice open it ? If yes, unzip both pre-save and after-save files and compare the xml. What makes LibreOffice crash? - create a new pptx file in with a table in LibreOffice and compare with a similar file created by XSLF. Are there any differences?
