That's quite surprising as the code I submitted was compiled against a 3.8beta5 release!
Anyway, to answer your question, what you are doing with the archives cannot cause problems in my opinion. Whilst it is always best to use the dependencies from the matching release - so all from 3.7 or all from 3.8 - those other archives, xmlbeans, stax and dom - still have the same names and version numbers as those in the version I am running. If it works, run with it for now, but I would be wary about using this configuration in a production environment until you had throughly tested it. Just for peace of mind, it might be worth downlading the latest stable release of the api - http://www.apache.org/dyn/closer.cgi/poi/release/bin/poi-bin-3.8-20120326.zip - and trying with that.
