Thanks Bosco for confirming the incompatibility between Ranger 0.5 and Hadoop
2.6.
I’m going to try installing Ranger 0.4 from scratch and will get back to you if
I run into any issues with that.

Cheers,

Seems our email crossed each other…

For Hadoop 2.6 you need to use Ranger 0.4. You can see the installation
document at
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/RANGER/Ranger+Installation+Guide.
For HDFS authorization you shouldn’t see much difference between Ranger 0.4 and
Ranger 0.5.

Regarding the repo, you need to give the values from your core-site.xml. Also
note, “Test Connection” is not mandatory. We can always make it work later. The
main issue for you would be the the config path and libraries. Can you find out
where the core-site.xml is on your Namenode? It will help to do the
configuration.

Thanks

Bosco

Yep, the repository name is the same.
I’ve gone through that thread too, the only difference being that we actually
have Kerberos enabled in our Hadoop Cluster.

On the ranger admin UI, under the dfs.datanode.kerberos.principalfield, what do
I specify? I ask because we have multiple datanodes and the each of them have a
different principal that is tied to their hostname.

Also, to reiterate my original question about CDH, are there any known
incompatibilities with CDH? Also, are there any known incompatibilities between
Ranger 0.5.0 and hadoop 2.6.0?

There is a similar thread going in the user group started by Aneela Saleem, you
can follow some of the instructions in the thread.

Also, can you ensure the repository name you created in Ranger admin is the
same one being configured for Ranger plugin?

Hello!

We’re trying to use Apache Ranger with our installation of Hadoop (CDH 5.4).
We have been able to get the Ranger Admin portal running but cannot seem to get
the Hadoop Namenode to pick up the HDFS plugin.

We are following the instructions at
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/RANGER/Ranger+Installation+Guide.
We’ve tried both 0.5.0 and 0.4.1 after compiling the source code.
I see that the name node is picking up the jar files from /usr/lib/hadoop
directory and the right configuration values are injected into the xml files
(hdfs-site.xml) but I don’t see the agent on my ranger admin UI.

Are there any known incompatibilities with CDH versions of Hadoop?
Or is there something that we’re missing?
