I'm not sure "near" would be the word I'd use :-).  But now that 1.0.3 is
wrapped (release vote is currently underway on the dev list), I'm going to
turn my attention to this area.  My current thinking is to use a wiki page
as a whiteboard to capture requirements and look at design alternatives,
before we start coding again.

I had hoped that these would be solved prior to 1.3 release.


I would have too ... but there was some pent up demand for some of the other
changes in 1.0.3 -- and the switch to using Maven2 for building Shale was a
huge amount of work, even though it'll have lots of downstream benefits.
