You can use a different view technology which allows you to skip JSP and use HTML templates directly (or use it in concert). Then again, Facelets is another JSF add-on which allows much of that capability. You can take better advantage of the Commons Validators while using Shale. I think those are the bug Shale plus'es of interest to me.
