I think you can try to leave the field blank and the connector should
do the rest: at least, this is working for LDAP.
Sorry, I misread your message below; moreover, even for LDAP you need to
specify something in that field.
Unfortunately I don't see any generalized rule to apply in this case
that is not depending on some specific connector stuff.

It's not a bug, it's the consequence of a feature [1] in ConnId
1.4.0.0 that Syncope 1.2.0.0 is using.
