Hmm - I frequently use Ubuntu 14.04 images/environments in the VCL, and I've seen 16.04 there, but haven't tried them out. I know that it took some effort to get that going - but don't know how much and what was done. One bit of effort I know about was adding the software to allow access via RDP.
