This demonstrates, that your problems is not really a problem of XStream, it
has to do with your environment. Can you compare the file sizes of the
libraries above with the ones you're using? Maybe your xmlpull jar is
corrupted.

Yes, I agree with you. After sending my email it occurred to me that I
will face the same problem with any other library I might install. The
files are intact, since I tested them on another machine and they worked
there (and the sizes are the same as yours). To be sure I downloaded
them again and they produced the same result as the previous ones.

Finally, I installed jdk 1.6 and managed to compile and run the test
files. So, from my point of view, this problem is solved, tough it would
have been good to know what kept jdk 1.7 from interpreting the class
path correctly.

Can you recommend me a similar xml library?

Define 'similar' ;-)

Well :), I needed xstream to save some objects in xml and reload them
in a later instance of the application. Let's say, for example,
that I'm keeping all the application settings' in an object which I'd
like to save to disk and read back again. But I guess now I won't be
needing a (similar :D) replacement.

Thanks Jörg, for your help, you've been very kind.

Best regards,
Liviu
