Setup a 2nd cluster, init replication and keep it running. Then upgrade the 2nd cluster to 9.0 with pg_upgrade, while replication still running. At least you can have as many restarts of the complete process as necessary w/o disturbing your production system... Did anybody try Slony with aox?
