The test ran successfully first time on my setup. Here is what I did:
1) Extracted the zip to a working directory. 2) Edited the top level pom.xml so that the JDBC URL pointed to a database instance I know does not exist: apptest 3) Ran mvn hibernate3:hbm2ddl to create the database. 4) Ran mvn jetty:run-war to check if the application comes up properly. Build was successfull (this includes PersonActionTest). 5) Ran mvn test -Dtest=PersonActionTest. All tests pass. All I can suggest is that you try and clean down your environment: 1) Run mvn clean on the project. 2) Delete the MySql database instance. And give it another go.
