It looks like you have an extra colon in that address, it should be: irc.freenode.net:6667
Trillian should be able to connect, but basically every IM client I have used for IRC hasn't worked quite right. A dedicated IRC client like XChat might be easier to use. Currently there isn't a lot of activity on the IRC channel, but I'm trying to be on the channel more. Hopefully we can start to build that portion of our active community as well.
