Thanks Matt, the article was fascinating.  Also compelling...I am happily
scrapping my conversion to tables.

So as not to get lost....I do think there is a bug in the delivered
css_xhtml/controlheader.ftl,  but only for field labels not positioned on
top.  It should be adding an opening span tag (see below).  If agreed, I'll
open a JIRA ticket, or submit a fix, or both?
