It wouldn't be easy to extend Ant to AppFuse 2.x b/c we do things like
overlaying WARs that wouldn't be as easy. Personally, I was frustrated with
the way AppFuse 1.x was organized (from an SVN perspective) and I like
AppFuse 2.x much better. I'm always very happy to accept patches if someone
wants to contribute Ant support. However, I found it very difficult to
maintain the dependencies in AppFuse 1.x and with 2.x all I have to do is
change a version number in an XML file. There is a download where you can
get all the dependencies, but you will have to still create your project
using the archetype:create command.

More than anything, if you don't like the way AppFuse works - don't use it.
There's several alternative solutions out there these days.
