I got HSQL running with Phoenix 4.0.4 using the cornerstone.jar that's in
the hsql-component project -- basically the version before the recent
refactoring of cornerstone from the avalon-cornerstone project to the
avalon-components project.

I did, however, get Phoenix 4.0.4 to run with the cornerstone-1.0.jar, but I
had to substitute a number of the latest versions of the excalibur
components jars, since Px 4.0.4 is distributed with the older versions of
excalibur.

To the core developers, any chance of a Px 4.1 release that uses the new
excalibur and cornerstone components?
