simple Framework getting started?

I want to find a way to start playing with the Avalon Framework to 
evaluate it.  I want to build an Avalon component, and run it in a very 
simple container.  I don't want to get lost in the details of the 
myriad other parts of Avalon outside the framework; ECM, Fortress, 
Pheonix, etc.

I've downloaded and built Avalon Framework 4.1.4.

Can anyone give me pointers on what minimum more is needed to get 
something simple running?  Some simple container?
