When you run merlin you can specify any URL for a block.xml to use. You don't 
necessarily need the block.xml inside your JARs, such as;

merlin http://niclas.hedhman.org/apps/myapp/block.xml

Furthermore, by defining many configuration profiles, and having different 
block.xml's, you can select at command-line which configuration should be  
used.
