I would say go with Merlin. I also agree with Niclas that one of your biggest challenges will be figuring out what is a component and what isn't. That's typical for someone starting with Avalon or any similar component/container framework. Couple of other thoughts: - Avalon is the framework; Merlin and Fortress are containers built on the framework. So if you use Merlin, you'll be using the Avalon framework. If you just wanted to use the Avalon framework, you could, but would probably end up reworking much of the code already in Merlin or Fortress. - You're basic component design sounds pretty good.
